About Saikat
Saikat Chakrabarti was born in Fort Worth, Texas, to parents who immigrated from India. After graduating from college, he moved to San Francisco in 2009 with the same dream shared by so many others: to make a difference. He quickly fell in love with the city. He founded his own company and later joined Stripe as its second engineer.
Saikat left Stripe to join Bernie Sanders’ 2016 presidential campaign, where he traveled the country building tools that powered a historic grassroots movement. During that campaign, he and a group of leaders launched Justice Democrats, an effort to recruit a new generation of leaders to Congress.
Among their first recruits was Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Saikat managed her 2018 campaign and then served as her Chief of Staff in Congress, where he was responsible for writing and launching the Green New Deal.
Today, Saikat leads a policy think tank focused on developing comprehensive plans to deliver prosperity and economic security for all Americans. His work centers on economic mobilization and building a clean economy in the United States and around the world.
In San Francisco, he is involved with several nonprofit organizations, including the SF-Marin Food Bank, the Housing Accelerator Fund, the Non-Profit Housing Association of Northern California, and Friends of Duboce Park. He lives in Duboce Triangle with his wife and daughter.
